Alleged Baby Snatcher Staked Out Maternity Ward
See the ABC News & Good Morning America Report
"She desperately was looking for [a] child, needed a child, and so she apparently went out a short time after this and found a child, took the child," said former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett.
Infant abduction in hospitals are more shocking than not. In fact, most expecting parents don’t realize the dangers of infant kidnappings.
Despite this, baby snatching is enough of a concern that hospitals warn new parents of possible kidnapping attempts while in the hospital’s care. Many hospitals teach new parents to be aware of such threats and several measures are taken to aid in prevention.
One way hospitals avoid such abductions is by requiring special bracelets on all infants that will trigger an alarm if the baby is taken out of the nursery without authorization.
On Thursday, September 21, 2006, ABC’s Good Morning America shared a story of a woman who allegedly kidnapped an 11-day-old Missouri baby at knife-point after reportedly delivering a stillborn baby before the attack.
In the video clip “Alleged Baby Snatcher Staked Out Maternity Ward,” the New York Presbyterian Hospital is shown with the Accutech Infant Security System as an example of a system used in hospitals nationwide to prevent infant abductions.
